Sir,

We read the publication on “Quality indicators in laboratory medicine: A fundamental tool for quality and patient safety” with great interest. Sharma et al. noted that “Indicators can be developed, and when these indicators are being monitored, information about deficiency in customer needs and satisfaction will be acquired. When conducting audits or evaluating laboratory records, it is important to have a goal or standard of performance. Therefore, quality information system will be needed and will have an important role to play in improving laboratory performances.”[1] In fact, the quality is a very important goal in any clinical laboratory. The quality management is a basic requirement in all medical laboratories. The indicator is a useful thing. However, it should be that the most important thing is not the indicator but the qualified laboratory personnel with competency and high responsibility. In our experience, despite the laboratory has several quality indicators and accredited according to international quality standards, the high rate of error is still observable.[2] The preanalytical is a common problem and usually related to human error. The quality should be the culture of the laboratory regardless of the rules or indicators for controlling. How to implement the quality mind in the laboratory personnel should be the new paradigm in quality management in medical laboratory.
