As the patron of the journal, it gives me great pleasure in presenting to you the all-new Journal of Medical Society ( ).

The Journal of Medical Society (J Med Soc) is a multidisciplinary peer-reviewed medical journal published quarterly by the Medical Society, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal (RIMS) since 1983.

It started as a small bulletin called the Medical Bulletin in 1977, thanks to the vision of the pioneers who started it. They were the faculty of the erstwhile Regional Medical College, Imphal, now renamed the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal. It is their vision and the hard work of the subsequent office-bearers of the Medical Society of the Institute that has resulted in the publication of this very popular journal.

J Med Soc has now embarked on a new journey, a journey of becoming a global journal since the September-December 2012 issue. It is being published by Wolters Kluwer Health Medknow publications. Submission and tracking of manuscripts will be solely electronic. Please visit www.journalonweb/jms to view issues online or sign up for an online submission. Open access enables a worldwide audience larger than that of any subscription-based journal, thereby increasing the visibility and impact of published works.

J Med Soc is committed to increasing the depth of the subject across disciplines with the ultimate aim of expanding knowledge of the subject. All manuscripts submitted are reviewed by members of the editorial board first for the correctness of format and relevance of the article. Then, these are sent to reviewers in the concerned specialty who are selected randomly from the databases. The process is a blind review, and decisions are made as rapidly as possible and the journal strives to return the comments of the reviewers to the authors promptly.

J Med Soc has always been an independent and authoritative voice for the medical institution from where it is published, but embarking on this new journey will definitely take it to its goal of making it a global voice.

We will publish high-quality, readable scientific material, laying more emphasis on high-quality clinical trials, research, and analysis. Tying up with Wolters Kluwer Health Medknow Publications has indeed increased the submissions from across the globe and this surely is a sign that we are on the right track.

The medical profession is challenged with rapid changes and a huge surge of new developments. As a peer-reviewed general medical journal, J Med Soc is devoted to publishing the latest advances in medical sciences. While encouraging the effort of every individual to promote health and prevent disease, we welcome every submission and comment from across the globe to the journal. We hope that this journal will become at par with the other indexed medical journals in the near future.

The world of medical publishing is facing rapid changes and this is putting additional pressure on the editors and publishers of the journal. I hope the editorial team tries its best to satisfy and benefit the readers.

With best wishes.
